History of Wrapadapt

When I was a little girl my grandmother would offer me two dollars if I returned to her the wrapping paper she had used to wrap my gift more or less intact.  She was the first to teach me the value of reusing, and even after her passing away, was the one to plant the seed for Wrapadapt.  I’m sure that to purchase more paper would have cost her less than two dollars.   However, even 30 years ago, my grandmother understood the cost of unnecessary waste in our landfills.  She had a great strategy for reducing waste, yet despite my grandmother’s best efforts, the paper eventually ripped and wrinkled after only a few uses.

As I grew up, and our family expanded, I could see how quickly and easily waste would pile up.  Christmas morning gathering bagfuls of discarded wrapping paper made me uneasy, but what could I do?  As with most people, tradition is important to us so leaving the gifts unwrapped didn’t seem like an option.   So I started wrapping all my gifts in fabric, held together with knots and pins.  This method eliminated the waste but the gifts were difficult to open and I was not at ease with the use of pins as we have small children in our family.   I then set out on a mission to design safe, easy to use, beautiful, reusable gift wrapping.  One year later, after many hours of sewing and testing prototypes I have selected my four best designs to sell so that other families can enjoy waste free celebrations.

When I was a child I rejoiced in recognizing a piece of wrapping paper that had been salvaged in a previous year, being flooded with the memories associated to it.  As an adult I am proud of my grandmother’s insight and am grateful she passed on these values.   I hope I can make her proud by continuing in the cause she believed in.
